Humans vs. Zombies at Miami is an on-campus ARG, alternate reality game, hosted every semester by the student organization MUndead. HvZ is a modified version of tag, first played at Goucher College, which pits players against each other as humans and zombies. In the beginning, there are only a few zombies but as the game continues, the humans will dwindle until only a brave few remain.
Zombies tag humans to turn them into zombies. Humans defend themselves by throwing marshmallows at zombies to stun zombies. Every game of HvZ at Miami also features special zombie units, special human weapons, and nightly missions at 11pm. If human players attend (and survive) enough nightly missions, they unlock a chance to test their luck at the finale.
As a new feature, MUndead has been working on play allowing for special squad missions. You and a team of your friends have the opportunity to carry out covert missions, go in marshmallows blazing, or in case you are zombies, chase down some fresh meat and score an extra tag.
So far, MUndead has hosted 3 games of HvZ on Miami’s campus. Our Fall 2012 game will be from Oct. 15, Monday, to Oct. 20., Saturday. The game runs a full 24 hours, spanning the full 6 days. To play, players must attend one of the introductory/informational meetings. And the best part: Besides marshmallows, the game is completely free and open to students, faculty and all interested in playing.
